Opening reception: Friday, May 24, 5:00
Glare Bears: Put On A Happy Face! New series debut at POP Gallery May 3rd 2024 with artist reception Friday May 24th 5-7pm.
Kate Samuels typically paints colorful and ethereal creatures immersed in the raw beauty of organically detailed flowers and abstract elements paired with the occasional cartoon inspiration juxtaposed with graphic or skeletal detail. What emerges are strangely genuine and unique expressions of wild sacred animals like you've never seen them before. Kate has been developing her Glare Bears characters with reference to early 1970s kitsch, early animation and takes inspiration from Mark Ryden, the King of POP Surrealism.

Don Kennell: Thinking Wild Portals
August 4 - October 25, 2023
Opening reception: Saturday, August 12, 5:00
Summer Group Show opens with new work during August First Friday ARTWALK through September. Mingle with the artists during a reception Saturday August 12th 5p-7pm.
The team DKLA Designs creates recycled metal sculptures with Don Kennell's larger than life majestic animals in forged steel, galvanized steel or upcycled car hoods. Their work is in private, corporate and public work collections internationally! Debuting a new series of large scale wall sculptures, "Thinking Wild Portals" for summer 2023.
The window is a portal. Taking you someplace. Outdoors. Go.
Art creates a portal. A portal to another world or another way of seeing the world.
Through different eyes you can see what life might be like from a different perspective.
How would a bison see the world differently from a rabbit for example?
We share this world with other creatures. We believe all creatures on the planet are interconnected. What happens to them happens to us. At DKLA Design, our mission is to bring other species into human consciousness.
Using animal imagery makes a claim for the universal. Our methods give life to inert hard material. These forces shape this material into living creatures. And this tells the story of human beings who care.
“Thinking Wild Portals” is our way to transport the viewer to another way of seeing.-DKLA

Featuring 2 new artists Joshua Spendlove & Travis Bruce Black among others.
NAW.T.Kat Series:
The graffiti-covered trains and alleyways of Las Vegas, Nevada, impacted my childhood, as did the untouchable masterworks found in museums and galleries. I am in awe of color, line, contrast, and the energy of the creation process. I attended the Las Vegas Academy of Art where I gained a foundation in art & design. After University and traveling abroad, I began my path as an artist exploring the relationships of duality, polarity & the balance between two opposites. I find stillness and peace creating art. Through art we find harmony in chaos, and perfection in randomness. Spendlove invites you to join him on a journey of bold & playful art. In his work you will see a delicate balance of bold, vibrant hues contrasted by its opposite & the electric energy they create in proximity. Each piece will invite you in for a closer look and strike up the conversation. Using acrylic paints, patterning, and the balance of positive & negative space he creates a platform for engagement which brings a fun zen-like energy to any space.
User Interface series:
"I try to flesh out the spectrum of difference between abstraction and naturalistic form to illustrate how layered reality is and to tease out a more inclusive picture of what "real" feels like. Color is Emotion. Implied movement is Time. Design is balanced in a way that shows the vulnerability or unlikeliness of our experience.
An overarching theme for my work is how complex creatures are and how every living thing is a little package of God-knows-what-mystery. This moves me to paint."-TBB

Clifford Bailey, new paintings
December 1 - January 31, 2022
Internationally renowned and a passionately original artist, Clifford Bailey's paintings evoke the era and ambiance of the roaring twenties, but with a modern twist; from his portraits of musicians in fine-tailored suits to his sparse and dramatic street scenes, jazz, jazz bands & nightlife, his recognizable style is unique and his work continues to be admired and acquired by collectors around the world. There are current artists whom Clifford politely and generously comments have been influenced by his work over the years and there is no doubt when you have a Clifford Bailey work--its the real deal.
Of his style and influences, Bailey says, "I think there's a little bit of a showman in me that has some flamboyance. My influences? Schiele, Klimt, Toulouse Lautrec, Modigliani and then Mad magazine and Walt Disney mixed in. The list goes on and on. Even abstract artists like Franz Kline. He especially had a big effect on me with his use of black. And those early Japanese prints of warriors with grimacing faces -- that bass player I paint so often with that smile is my samurai warrior."
Clifford Bailey originals and giclees are available exclusively in Santa Fe, NM at POP Gallery. Contact us directly to add this prolific artist to your collection at 505.820.0788.

Secular Santero: The New Mexico Retablo Reimagined
July 16 - September 20, 2021
"My Secular Santero" series, depicts figures outside of the traditional Christian based cast of characters. Many are is inspired by the inevitable mixing of native and Mexi-Spaniard people both culturally and in the DNA within the New Mexico territory.
With theses pieces I am trying to show the connection between the original New Mexican santeros and outsider art. We think of retablo style as "traditional" but the original painters were creating a style from a void very much like outsider artists creating new expressive motifs and unique aesthetic.
Most of the original Northern New Mexican Retablos were modeled after print engravings. Since the land was so remote from Mexico City not many of the baroque style paintings made the trip if any at all. So local artisans had to take the task of creating the art, under their own hands."- BM 2021
The exhibition will be available for viewing online and in person July 15th. Join us for an artist reception Saturday July 24th during Spanish Market 2021!!
Please contact the gallery directly for a personal sneak preview by phone 505-820-0788 or email [email protected].

Lynden St. Victor, The Zodiac Portraits
September 4 - October 31, 2020
Opening reception: Friday, September 4, 6:00
We are pleased to celebrate our 13th year as Santa Fe's premiere New Brow Contemporary Gallery. Lynden St. Victor helps us focus on the beautiful aspects of his untamed artistic portraits in the Zodiac Series.
The Mission-
I believe our mission on earth is to evolve - into what exactly, I have no idea. And I also believe that the road to expedite this mission is to live this current life with two main goals - and these have become my mantra (with a shout out to the amazing Bishop John Shelby Spong), "To live wide-eyed in the Mystery of Life and Dare to Love Wastefully".-LSV
POP Gallery is the official home gallery for Lynden St. Victor and debuts all original works, new releases and offers commission opportunities exclusive to POP Gallery collectors. Contact us directly to discuss the opportunities available in adding this prolific artist to your collection at 505.820.0788.

Brandon Maldonado, "Identidades"
July 5 - August 31, 2019
Opening reception: Saturday, July 27, 6:00
Exhibition opens Friday July 5th-August, artist unveiling 6pm
Spanish Market Reception Saturday July 27th 6pm
One of New Mexico's most celebrated New Brow Contemporary artists, it's not hard to understand why Brandon Maldonado's paintings are in high demand. Maldonado paints images of fictional saints, portraits of family members, and contemporary scenes such as quinceaneras, figures crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, and in 2018 POP Gallery showcased his love letter to Mexico, a Neo-Picasso series, which garnered international recognition as well featured articles in the Pasatiempo and THE Magazine.
His style borrows freely from Catholic retablos and ex-votos, early Flemish painting, Cubism, and popular culture, all of which Maldonado combines to create colorful and intricate oil-on-panel paintings. Largely self-taught as a painter, Maldonado's early Día de los Muertos images, are still classic while he continues to evolve artistically and make relevant work reflecting on historical importance as well as commenting on current issues.
Identidades: This exhibition consists of 6 central paintings retelling the story of what is widely known as The Spanish Conquest of the New World, but what should more realistically be referred to as The Mexican Spanish War as proposed by historian Matthew Restall in his 2018 reexamination of the subject "When Montezuma met Cortes." When approaching this series of works it was important to me that both the Indigenous and Spanish perspectives were present. So I attempt to depict these perspectives in oil paint using a style that recalls the qualities of the traditional art of New Mexico such as retablo paintings and their three dimensional counter parts known as bultos. Within these uniquely New Mexican works can be found an enchanting sense of naivety that comes as a result of the original makers being untrained artists using what materials they can find in the region. A huge departure from the academically trained painters of Europe whose art provided them the source material to which their works referenced. See more...
